

The West Michigan Lakers are entering their 5th season as the Lakehore's premeir boys basketball program. Begining in 2002, the Laker program took shape by having just one 17 and under team. With over 60 highshool players trying out the Lakers made their presence known with a very successull inaugural campaign. Players such as Peter Overbeek (Holland Christian / Northwood), Michael Hall (Holland High / GVSU), and Kyle Clement (Hudsonville / Northwood football) are just a few of the players that have went on to play at the next level and helped build the foundation of future Laker successes.
In 2003, the lakers built on the momentum of the previous season and added a 16 and under team to the family. This years u17 team took home the programs first tournament championship led by several college bound players like Tony Gugino (Holland Christian / Hillsdale), Marcus Lancaster (Wyoming Lee / GRCC), Tyler Rader (Forest Hills Northern / Warner Southern), Dominque Taylor (Grand Rapids Creston / Texas A&M Corpus Christi), Teddy Rosendahl (Holland Christian / Tri-State), Brandon Burrell (MCC), and Dustin Smith (Hamilton / Calvin College)
2004 added a 3rd and final team to the program with a 15 and under team. The 17 and under team continued the trend of gaining new friends, great memories, and another winning season. Players like Lee Slenk (Holland Christian / Trinity), Jeremy Voorhees (Tri-Unity / Cornerstone), Mike Zweir (Tri-Unity / Calvin College jv), Tyler Zoerhof (Holland Christian / Calvin College), Adam Edson (Grand Haven / Hope jv), and Jon Matych (Grand Haven / Kalamazoo College) have all takin their skills to the next level.
The 2005 class continued to get better with each tournament and continued the tradition of 4 straight winning seasons. This class (like the ones before them) have several players that are leading their high school teams into the upcoming postseason and beyond. Players like Will Bruinsma (West Michigan Christian), Lou Williams (Muskegon Heights / signed with Ferris State), Matt Kingshott (Zeeland West) and Chris Nelis & Steve Reidsma (Zeeland East) all have bright futures at the college level.
